Have a lemony weekend!

We’ll be working on the car in Patterson this weekend. If all goes well, the tires may turn under their own power,,, or not.

I leave you with this moment of Zen from Thunderhill last year.

Incident Report: Status, awesome! (we had a great time Karting last night)

Go Kart Racer LogoThree Fifths’ of Scuderia Punk Rock Chef showed up last night to Go Kart Racer in Burlingame last night for a sustained pummeling.

We with our silly bodies made of flesh, stuffed in fiberglass skull bubbles, and view ports made of polycarbonate , while we sheathed ourselves in Nomex, Nylon, and leather, ready for 50 minutes of intense G-force induced bliss,, or maybe it was just me.

It was Mike, Jukka, and Fred (that’s me), ready to roll (once we all arrived,, ugh, crossing the bay can be quite a trifle). I myself took almost two hours to arrive, same for Jukka, so we were tense upon arrival, Mike made it all ok with the addition of the local fare,, In n Out Burger (if you’re not a Californian, you wouldn’t understand,, magical hamburgers,, mmm, (best secret, animal style fries!)).
Monza Track at go Kart Racer

But you’re not reading this for the burgers, you want to hear we piled up on the side of the road and crashed willy nilly into the walls.

Sorry to disappoint, but we did fine. Jukka did have to suffer through an ill handling car, but the three of us came through with flying colors. It was a fun test of fitness and rubber depletion. I’d post all the pics, but its a little hard to hold a camera going through the corners.

Best of all we got to try out some of the gear we’ll be driving Lemons with. Knowledge is power!

All parts accounted for, let’s make it run!

We took the left side hub and strut (this is the right)So we finally got the rest of the running parts at the junkyard.

Do they work?! We have no idea!! But they should be the right parts,, maybe.

The best part is we couldn’t have found them without the wisdom and knowledge provided by the great Murilee Martin of Jalopnik, whose sage advice and rockin tunes always bring us delight and remind us to have a beer and cheer for our Oakland A’s.

At Pick n Pull, we met a cool guy named Dennis (who may buy our seats!) who took the tranny from the same car. He was a blast!

This weekend we’ll be blasting it back in Patterson hopefully to turn a wheel in a modicum of anger for the first time. The level of excitement we’ll experience at that point in time,, well, we’ll put it on video, so don’t worry (if it doesn’t blow up).dashboard loveliness

Also we’re starting to get racing gear. Look for the next post to show us humans in driving gear!

Finally, thursday (this thursday 3-27-08) we’ll be at gokartracer, well, go karting. It’s enduro night, if you’re a lemons head, or just a driving nut, show up, say Hi, have fun!

Cheers!

Alas poor Numskull, I am him,, true.

this stupidYes, I (Fred) am an idiot (but you really knew that already didn’t you).

When applying I brilliantly left out the fact that I needed the temp license too (my team’s laughter in the background).

I also remarkable just noticed that we need to come together as a team to set up exactly how many crew members we’re going to have and pre-pay them as well!

The “secured crew members” we have so far are:

Our great and all knowing crew chief Scott Schroeder.

My violent and beautiful wife Shannon Schechter (she’s in charge of pounding sheet metal,, not neccesarily our car, but that’s her job).

Likely other crew members who we’ll have to cajole properly

The Jukka-ette’s.

Shaun’s robot army (we will finish,, or others will not.)

Jaime’s partner in crime Beth.

and possibly some other surprise humans (I’ll try and get some serious muscle for jackmen).

More info soon (we’re rapidly hunting a seat, belts, fuel gauge, and left rear hub-brake assembly).

Murilee does it again, we’re paid up, and the cage is on the way!

So special “friend of team” Murilee Martin at Jalopnik (he’s not special in that needs a helmet way, more of a “helpful human who is cool way”) . Though yes, at the race we will have a picture of Murilee in a helmet (maybe even when he’s racing!) Murilee has found on one of his many junkyard forays (I’m surprised they haven’t offered him a yearly pass, no one goes there more, or sends them more traffic!)

We’ve got a new bumper sticker up (to complement the original (get it here!) (don’t worry, more to come)).Bumpersticker2

We’re paid up for the race (don’t worry Shaun, we’ll all pay ya back!)

Also, our autopower roll cage is ordered. Oh yeah,, protecting the team with the power of steel!!! Get your Autopower cage here!

Next task, to get the stuff in the Junkyard Murilee found (don’t touch it anyone else!) Also to order a race seat and safety belts.

Forza Porco!!

Today’s update-Jalopnik, new crew chief, work accomplished, still need,,,

First of all,, Thanks Murilee!!

That’s Murilee Martin at Jalopnik.com he’s written a bit about us (and our fun logo).

Next, this weekend we got some serious work done (yipee!) Check the pics here.

New (Used) radiator -in

Old AC condensor, heater core, dashboard- out

front lights -out

Interior, carpet, passenger seat, general schmutz-out

We have a special announcement as well, we have a new crew chief (not Chef, that’s already Jacob Meggers) named Scott Schroeder.

Who’s that you say? Well so far our team Nurse/Racer Jukka Valkonen (to be profiled later) has brought in Scott with these few words about him

“He races professionally (porsche), and trains drivers. this is a guy who has been racing since he was 15 having gone through the race schools, the BMW F1 development program."

So to recap: New crew chief Scott Schroeder (awesome), Murilee wrote about us at Jalopnik (Sweet!), parts are starting to get on the car!

Oh yeah, and tomorrow we’re buying our roll cage!

Here we go!!

We’re # 29,, That’s like Kevin Harvick,, but,, totally different

So we’ve got a number,, after some heavy angling by certain teammates for numbers of varying ahem,, significance.  It turned out 29 was available,, so,, here it is.

29

Begin the cavalcade of helmet designs!!!

So here’s my first attempt at a super simple helmet design (I can do it all with decals,, cause I’m lazy!)

Inspiration: Red bull drivers helmet, Ferrari shield rear sticker, Rebel alliance/star wars. I’m a geek, what are you gonna do?

Fred’s helmet

How about posting yours now?

We’re IN!!!!

On Tuesday March 4th 2008 at 11:05pm pacific standard time we were notified by the all knowing Jay Lamm, purveyor of Lemons Madness that,,,,,

We’re in the race!

Tick Tock,, did we get in??? Oh yeah, and the car is in Patterson

So we wait,, not so patiently on this March 1 to see if we got in. Arrgh!! This is nervewracking!!!Jaime and the car in patterson

Last weekend Mike and Fred brought (had the wrecker drag) the car out to Patterson and Jaime’s shop so that we can do the remainder of the work out there. The interior is stripped, but we’ve still got to find a way to get a new left rear hub so the darn thing will roll. (then little things like a hood, roll cage, and more!)

Hopefully we’ll have a big announcement soon (ok, that we’re in the race, then its safety gear buying galore!)

Wish us luck! the trek there
