Today’s update-Jalopnik, new crew chief, work accomplished, still need,,,

First of all,, Thanks Murilee!!

That’s Murilee Martin at he’s written a bit about us (and our fun logo).

Next, this weekend we got some serious work done (yipee!) Check the pics here.

New (Used) radiator -in

Old AC condensor, heater core, dashboard- out

front lights -out

Interior, carpet, passenger seat, general schmutz-out

We have a special announcement as well, we have a new crew chief (not Chef, that’s already Jacob Meggers) named Scott Schroeder.

Who’s that you say? Well so far our team Nurse/Racer Jukka Valkonen (to be profiled later) has brought in Scott with these few words about him

“He races professionally (porsche), and trains drivers. this is a guy who has been racing since he was 15 having gone through the race schools, the BMW F1 development program."

So to recap: New crew chief Scott Schroeder (awesome), Murilee wrote about us at Jalopnik (Sweet!), parts are starting to get on the car!

Oh yeah, and tomorrow we’re buying our roll cage!

Here we go!!

We’re # 29,, That’s like Kevin Harvick,, but,, totally different

So we’ve got a number,, after some heavy angling by certain teammates for numbers of varying ahem,, significance.  It turned out 29 was available,, so,, here it is.

Tick Tock,, did we get in??? Oh yeah, and the car is in Patterson

So we wait,, not so patiently on this March 1 to see if we got in. Arrgh!! This is nervewracking!!!Jaime and the car in patterson

Last weekend Mike and Fred brought (had the wrecker drag) the car out to Patterson and Jaime’s shop so that we can do the remainder of the work out there. The interior is stripped, but we’ve still got to find a way to get a new left rear hub so the darn thing will roll. (then little things like a hood, roll cage, and more!)

Hopefully we’ll have a big announcement soon (ok, that we’re in the race, then its safety gear buying galore!)

Wish us luck! the trek there

So, uhh, junkyards can be fun,,, no,, seriously,, really…

So Mike and Fred went to the pick a part, pull apart,, place with dead cars.

Now, for the low low price of 92 bucks, we got a radiator, 2 electric fans, and a front bumper,, as we’ve been told there will be bumping,, and thus,, bumper.

Junkyards,, what an amazing type of place.  Dirty filthy awesome dead cars.

It’s like the sarlacc pit was on cybertron and all the autobots got sucked down it and the sarlacc pooped all the autobots, then a bunch of people wanted his poop, and then they paid for it.

Yep, I nailed it!

So of course I’ll be going back very soon, (I’ve got Optimus Prime’s appendix!)

Feb 9th,,, gotta work it out, Application in, rats nest, and lemon tree.

Here’s what we got done in the morning (shown above)

Here’s a link to the pictures of what went on, (check it,, without thinking about it, our car is being worked on right next to a lemon tree!! Now that’s a good omen!! (isn’t it?))

We got our application in yesterday, (big step). So that was fairly momentous. Hopefully that’ll prove our “skills” silliness, and desire to drive this hunk around a track enough to let us in!

In the fun categories, our left rear seized wheel seems to be bad, but not nearly as bad as it could have been. It looks like fixing it will be a part of a junk yard run. Hopefully some people will get to join Murilee Martin of the Jalopnik team for a junkyard run next weekend (I’ll be at a 2 year old birthday party in Fresno for the weekend so I’ll be out.)

Also, it looks like our stock seat could do just fine for us (thus a savings of quite a bit). We may coat it in some nomex for a tad bit of safety and grip. But that’d be it. Saving that much, while having a durable adjustable seat already might be just the ticket.

Lemons Ho!!

so far (the video)

First bits of “the lightening process” pulled off,, even a little blood!

Today, we got some work done (ish). Blood is a part of racing

Pulled off more than a few parts. Here’s a link to the pictures of everything we did.

Hopefully the next post will be a quick youtube bit of an overview.

most of the rear deck internals are removed, the big mdf deck, straps, and mounting hardware.

check us out in all our glory!!

We’re totally looking vehicle-like.

Ok, I’m kidding, still a ton to do, but it’s progress!

Check our parts out

Click here for a bunch of pics of parts of the car.

We’re rocking and rolling kids! Next step,, “The essay portion”!

zwheelWe’ve got a blog,

an email address,

a car (1977 Datsun 280z),

a moron “leader” (me,, I don’t know if you want to admit that),

a name Scuderia P.R.C. (Punk Rock Chef) (prancing pig (instead of Ferrari’s prancing horse))

Next, in the application process we will be writing the application to be able to register for the race,

The 24 Hours of Lemons!!!

Gentlemen, and Ladies,,, aggressively idle your engines!!!!! (until we know we’re officially in!)
